10/4/2023 0 Comments Time out for puppy biting![]() If she’s getting to the point where she’s biting at you when you’re walking around and stuff, might be time for bed. We realised this helped a lot with her overtired puppy biting. Pups need to sleep for 16-20hrs per day, so we worked on a 1-2hrs awake and 2-3hrs sleep throughout the day. What worked best for us was running our pup on a schedule so we made sure she got enough sleep. I got my pup at 10 weeks and honestly, the biting was worst for us at the 11-14/15 week mark. We’re feeling desperate - advice, tips, words of encouragement, or commiserating are all welcome! How do you stay calm but also firm when trying to redirect? I don’t know how to do that when she’s clamped on to my sweatshirt and is ready to pounce on my feet / calves if I stand up!Īny thoughts on how to control our own emotions when we’re victims to a bite attack? It’s so hard not to yell out or overreact - the other day I just instinctually yanked her leash and felt so so awful about it. For us to remove ourselves after biting would require getting up from the living room floor and walking about 10 feet to the bathroom. ![]() We don’t have a pen so when we play with her, it’s just out on the living room floor. After reading a handful of posts here, we think she might not be sleeping enough so we started enforcing nap times throughout the day - hopefully that will make a difference!Īlso would love to hear advice about reverse time outs. We started to notice that sometimes after she freaks out, she goes poop (or less frequently pee) - but other times, it’s unclear what’s triggering her. She becomes consumed by these fits of madness and it’s upsetting and stressful! She is so sweet and cuddly in the morning, a little difficult in the afternoon, and an absolute terror at night. Is this normal at this age? Is she just a late (or early) bloomer? Having an extended biting phase? We’ve had our puppy for a little over a week, and according to the paperwork from the rescue, she is exactly 12 weeks old - and nipping and biting like crazy. Just searched biting on this sub and I feel like I see a lot of people complaining about biting around 8-10 weeks and 14-16 weeks, but not as many in that 10-14 window.
